L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), managed by Hyderabad Eye Institute & Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation is a not-for-profit, comprehensive eye care institution committed to delivering high-quality treatment and care for patients, embracing all socio-economic backgrounds.
LVPEI is a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Prevention of Blindness and a Global Resource Center for VISION 2020: The Right to Sight initiative. In the past 31 years through our network of eye care centres we served approximately 26.04 million people with more than 50% services provided free of cost to the economically underprivileged, regardless of complexity.
LVPEI focuses on economically disadvantaged groups in rural and urban geographies and extends our services to them through 205 networks of eye care centres. The LVPEI network comprises a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Hyderabad, 3 tertiary centres in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, 19 secondary + 2 City Centres, and 180 primary care centres that cover the remotest rural areas in the four states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka.
Over the past decade, LVPEI has treated over 1500+ patients with Retinoblastoma, the
most common and life-threatening eye cancer in children. In 90% of the cases, it was possible to save the life of the child. But of those, the eyesight of the child could be saved in only 45% of the cases because of late presentation. LVPEI believes that no child should die or lose sight due to eye cancer because of lack of awareness or unavailability of treatment.
