Life Skills and Career Guidance to 9th and 10th students in Government High Schools in Andhra Pradesh

The Secondary Education deals with adolescent students. These students are undergoing huge physical as well as emotional transformations. This is a critical age since peer pressure and peer expectations are high. This is the period when the students have to perform competitively as well as make some important career decisions related to their future careers and need timely guidance for the same. Since the students have to prepare for global challenges of the 21st century, they need some specific Life Skills and Career Guidance support to reach their potential and lead a good life.

At this backdrop, to address the developmental needs and concerns of students at different stages of schooling, the project has been launched. The purpose of this life skills and career guidance program is to help each student develop as an individual in his/her own right to make choices and set goals on the basis of his/her strengths by attending to the special needs and requirements of students belonging to different social, economic and cultural backgrounds, thereby leading to their effective transition from school to workforce and Higher Education.

This project was initiated for the holistic development of all the 9th and 10th students studying in all Government High Schools in Andhra Pradesh (AP) during the academic year 2018-19. We are continuing with this project for the 2nd year in a row i.e. for academic year 2019-20.

Nirmaan is the Knowledge Partner to Government of Andhra Pradesh to provide Life Skills and Career Guidance Programs to about 750,000+ students studying in all the 9th and 10th standard across 7,500+ Government schools in Andhra Pradesh. And we are also imparting the program on-ground in 5 districts - Krishna, Vijayanagaram, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa, serving about 274,000+ students across 1949 Government High Schools.

For implementing this program at such a scale, Nirmaan would require Rs. 160 per child. We have received the support for Rs. 80 from Government. To enhance the effectiveness of the implementation, we are raising funds to bridge this gap. Donations to Nirmaan are exempt from 50% under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
